2. Summer Intensive Program(2005 Summer)

..Beginning in 2005, the KFOP-KU program announced a new Summer Intensive Program (SIP) enabling students who have successfully completed the first year of studies from UH/UCLA to attend classes and live in Korea. The SIP allows students to attend classes related to their major and helps them to adapt to new life in Korea.
The first SIP took place July 18th-29th with Jin-Han Lee, professor in the History Department, giving a lecture on “Dan-Gun: Myth and Critique of the Historical View of Japanese Colonization”. With the help of academic assistants, students themselves selected two topics and gave presentations as well.

The second SIP was held August 17th-30th and after attending a lecture entitled “Introduction to Political Science” by Doo-Jin Kim, professor at Asiatic Research Center, students also gave presentations on related topics. Four assistants from the Department of Korean History and ten assistants from the Department of Political Science participated in this class, thus helping the process and adapting a more efficient process.

Aside from the lectures students also attended a Media Class. The Media Class is designed and intended to expand different points of views regarding various issues related to Korea. Discussion Class was also held to help students express and debate their views concerning those issues. Detailed timetable is as follows:

6. Tutoring
..With the launching of the on-location program, 20 Korean Doumis will be recruited to give help to the students regarding their study and career training. Doumis are graduate students in good academic standing at Korea University that are in the same major study area as the students and will meet with the students to help with their Korean language study.

  7. Evaluation & Monitoring Students

 Regular meetings with the coordinator
..All students are to meet with their program coordinator regularly to discuss their studies and career training and develop the most efficient Korean language program for each individual.
Students may also discuss problems and seek help from the coordinator regarding their life in Korea, finding a Doumi or a career training organization, and so on.

 Doumi Journal
..Doumis keep a journal after each meeting with the student. They are to record in detail what they did to help the student learn Korean, their feelings, ideas or opinions and report to the coordinator. Through the Doumi journals the coordinator will obtain useful information regarding the student’s learning process of the Korean language.

 Career Training Journal
..Students will keep a journal of their career training activities and report them to their coordinator. By way of doing this, students will be able to carefully observe their Korean learning process through career training, and will also give them a chance to resolve any questions or problems with their coordinator.

 Instructor Evaluation
..The instructor in charge of the student’s major subject area must prepare an evaluation form that includes the student’s background knowledge on his/her major subject, understanding of Korean language lectures and textbooks, attendance, class participation, presentation and discussion and report to the Korean Language and Culture Center and the on-location program coordinator
